Splits
|
When we began production
with Möller-Werke to produce our own wet blue hides, we
automatically obtained splits which went on immediately to be
trimmed by our specialists, sorted and prepared to each tanner’s
individual needs. The result was a splits operation which quickly
grew from our own production. In addition, we began to acquire
splits from other tanners and today we offer a wide selection of
splits either fresh, brined or wet blue.
All split
hides are trimmed, i.e. bellies and shoulder are cut off,
and the double butts are selected for quality.
|
Afterwards the double
butts are either drum salted or chrome tanned. In the brined state,
the butts are classified according to weight. All wetblue double
butts are classified after sammying according to minimum substance
all over the surface. In addition the double butts are measured for
size. Both details are printed on to the butt, which helps in
simplifying controls.
The accumulating belly and
shoulder splits from trimming are sorted among grades and supplied
in their fresh condition daily to the European gelatin and collagen
industry.
